About Artwork: Coming Out of Her Shell represents the artist as a fawn

emerging from a large shell. The image reflects Ochre Aches’

experience of learning to grow in confidence and place

herself more openly in the world. The fawn appears partly

held within the shell, suggesting that this movement beyond

comfort is difficult, gradual, and not always linear. The

painting speaks to the pressure of being asked to step

outside oneself, while also acknowledging the quiet courage

involved in doing so.
